50% OF MOTS DUE IN SEPTEMBER

Over half of MOTs that would have usually taken place in March are now due in September. Dealerships and garages are now faced with an estimate of 580,000 more MOTs than normal.

The automotive industry is working hard to capture all the aftersales work available, brought on by the Covid prompted MOT extensions. Retailers and suppliers are currently adapting to the seasonal spike, ensuring they are at capacity to cope with the demand and make up for any lost business.

The early part of 2022 aftersales departments, are set to be very quiet on MOTs, this isn’t set to be just a trend, the MOT extension is going to have a lasting effect over the next couple of years.

According to recent GiPA findings, 56% of all MOT tests performed in 2019 were carried out with extra work, with the additional customer spending on an MOT visit averaging around £85.

September is now a key aftersales month, and this is the opportunity for retailers and suppliers to get their customer contact strategy in line. Communicating effectively at the right time, with the right message, to the relevant customer base could have a positive effect ahead September 2022.

Customers equally don’t want to be in the queue for an MOT all at the same time, simple frequent email reminders around topics such as beating the rush, could prompt consumers to avoid another chaotic September next year, benefitting the customer and the automotive industry.
